Overview

On February 23, 2021, President Biden and Prime Minister Trudeau signed the "Roadmap for a Renewed US-Canada Partnership," an affirmation of the special relationship between the two nations and a blueprint for how Canada and the United States could improve cooperation in six key areas: Combatting COVID-19, Building Back Better, Accelerating Climate Ambitions, Advancing Diversity and Inclusion, Bolstering Security and Defence, and Building Global Alliances.

The Wilson Center Canada Institute hosted an update on the Roadmap in July 2021 and a one-year progress report in March 2022. Since then, President Joe Biden held an official visit to Canada, Ottawa launched a "Team Canada 2024" initiative to promote the Canada-US partnership, and both leaders participated in multilateral summits to advance partnerships in North America, the western hemisphere, and beyond.

On March 12,  Ambassador of Canada to the United States Kirsten Hillman and Ambassador of the United States to Canada David L. Cohen will provide a three-year update on the Roadmap and outline ongoing avenues of collaboration. The virtual event will be held in partnership with the Embassy of the United States in Ottawa and Embassy of Canada in Washington, DC.
