The Latin American Program serves as a bridge between the United States and Latin America, encouraging a free flow of information and dialogue between the two regions. The Program, founded in 1977, provides a nonpartisan forum for discussing Latin American and Caribbean issues in Washington, D.C., and for bringing these issues to the attention of the opinion leaders and policy makers throughout the Western Hemisphere.

This Conference Report examines both old and new strategies for promoting gender equity in development. As such, it draws upon expert scholars and practitioners to analyze individual cases from throughout the developing world. The report also aims to identify policy options for enhancing gender equity and suggests ways of rethinking current debates over the inclusion of women. This publication is the product of a conference co-sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson Center and the Inter-American Foundation.

The purpose of the event is to provide Members of Congress, their staffs, and the public with an informed and balanced discussion of the multiple issues surrounding the pending FTA, including the potential benefits to both the United States and Colombia and such critical issues as labor rights. For this initiative, the Wilson Center is pleased to have the support of the U.S.-Colombia Business Partnership, a group of prominent U.S. companies working to strengthen the U.S.-Colombian relationship.
