Call for Applications: Superpower Rivalry and the Third Way(s) in the Mediterranean

The European University Institute is pleased to announce the upcoming workshop Superpower Rivalry and the Third Way(s) in the Mediterranean, to be held in Florence and Montecatini Terme from 24-27 March 2010.

Applications are due by 15 July 2009 and should be completed electronically at
http://www.rscas.org/medform.asp

The workshop will examine the competing interests and political, economic, and cultural influences of the Non-Aligned Movement against those of the Superpowers in the Cold War Mediterranean. From this region's perspective, we consider the meaning of non-alignment, its protagonists and its ramifications for a "third way" between the blocs. The workshop seeks to bring together scholars with diverse disciplinary perspectives and expertise on the Non-Aligned Movement and the superpower confrontation in the region.
