Latin American Program in the News: Crece la inseguridad en todo el continente

Director Cynthia J. Arnson weighs in on the lack of security in Venezuela and discusses how, despite significants reductions in poverty and inequality, insecurity has spiked dramatically in this South American country. (In Spanish)

Para Cynthia Arnson Directora de América Latina en el Centro Woodrow Wilson,“ la situación de Venezuela esta fuera de la discusión de las buenas practicas, porque el país,tiene pocas experiencias positivas que compartir con sus vecinos de la region”.

Arnson incluso recuerda que el tema de la inseguridad es tan grave, que ha sido parte importante de la ultima campana electoral , donde el candidato electo Nicolás Maduro reconoció el desafío prometió darle solución, como parte de su agenda. gubernamental.

Según estudios del Wodrow Wilson, aunque en la mayoría de los países y ciudades de América del Sur se han visto mejoras en la seguridad ciudadana, en los últimos años, en Venezuela se ha empeorado aun con los avances en la lucha contra la pobreza y la desigualdad.

Esta tasa de homicidios de Venezuela sólo es superada por Honduras y El Salvador, dos países devastados por la violencia de las pandillas y el crimen organizado.
