Latin American Program in the News: FARC defense of kidnappings agitates negotiations

Bogotá. EFE y AP. Las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC) reivindicaron ayer su “derecho” a tomar “prisioneros de guerra”, práctica que el Gobierno de Colombia calificó como “secuestros” al admitir que ese anuncio es un atentado contra la negociación de paz que se lleva a cabo en La Habana.

Estas diferencias irrumpieron en el clima de la negociación un día antes de que las partes retomen los diálogos en la capital cubana, después de que unos y otros habían destacado las “aproximaciones” y el “buen ritmo” del proceso iniciado en noviembre.

Sin embargo, el viernes pasado las FARC tomaron cautivos a dos policías en una zona rural del suroeste del país, en el municipio de Pradera. Por medio de su blog y cuenta de Twitter, los negociadores del grupo insurgente defendieron el martes su “potestad” de tomar uniformados cautivos en el marco del conflicto.

“Nos reservamos el derecho a capturar como prisioneros a los miembros de la Fuerza Pública que se han rendido en combate. Ellos se llaman prisioneros de guerra, y este fenómeno se da en cualquier conflicto que haya en el mundo”, expusieron.
