En 2006 Hazleton, Pennsylvania, que queda a casi tres mil kilómetros de la frontera con México, fue sede de uno de los debates más agrios sbore migración cuando el cabildo aprobó una de las leyes más duras contra los indocumentados. Si bien la ley fue amparada en las cortes y nunca se implementó, dejó tensiones profundas en el pequeño pueblo de 25 mil habitantes y fue nota nacional durante semanas.
