Critical Oral History Conference Series

Launched in 2008, the multi-year Critical Oral History Conference (COHC) Series is designed to fill the gaps in the available documentary record and add greater nuance to even well-understood events in modern and contemporary Korean history. Carried out by the Center in cooperation with the University of North Korean Studies (UNKS), Seoul, the conferences involve veteran diplomatic and intelligence officials from the United States, South Korea, China, and the former communist bloc, and seek to explore the untapped wealth of non-archival sources to add nuance into the histories of inter-Korean, U.S.-Korean, and DPRK-communist bloc relations.
