The Iranian Presidential Elections: What Do They Tell Us?

Iran's recent presidential elections ended, according to official figures, with a victory for the incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. But the president's three rivals in the elections were quick to label the election result as fraudulent, and judging by the massive protests that erupted once the results were announced, large numbers of Iranians agreed with them. Haleh Esfandiari, Director of the Wilson Center's Middle East Program talks with Farideh Farhi, an affiliate graduate of faculty of political science at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and Afshin Molvai, a senior fellow and author at the New America Foundation, about the outcome of the recent Iranian election.
