The Tenth Parallel: Dispatches from the Fault Line Between Christianity and Islam

July 9, 2011

Eliza is an award-winning journalist and poet. She is currently a fellow at the New America Foundation, is a former Neiman Fellow at Harvard University, and a former Wilson Center Fellow.

The tenth parallel—the line of latitude seven hundred miles north of the equator—is a geographical and ideological front line where Christianity and Islam collide. Award-winning investigative journalist and poet, Eliza Griswold spent seven years traveling between the equator and the tenth parallel: in Nigeria, the Sudan, and Somalia, and in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. She discovered that religious conflicts are also conflicts about land, water, oil, and other natural resources, and that along the tenth parallel, faith can also be geographic and demographic. Scheduled for rebroadcast starting October 20, 2010 on MHz Worldview channel.
