A Walk to Beautiful

July 9, 2011

Mary Olive Smith, director and producer of A Walk to Beautiful

For many women in rural Ethiopia the scourge of fistula brings acute psychic as well as physical suffering. The affliction condemns victims to the life of social outcasts bereft of community ties and shunned by a hostile public. For a fortunate few, however, there is hope. Treatment at a hospital in the nation's capitol not only restores health but also reintegrates women with their families. All of this is depicted in a documentary film "Walk to Beautiful" and described here by Producer Mary Olive Smith.
