As the debate over trade liberatlization and development continues to grow in intensity, the linkages between gender and trade remain understudied and often overlooked during the negotiation and implementation of trade agreements. In anticipation of the upcoming Hong Kong ministerial of the World Trade Organization as well as the recent proliferation of regional and bilateral trade agreements, this conference should generate a serious and in-depth dialogue about the gender-related myths behind current trade policies, the challenges to the inclusion of gender dimensions, and the consequences of ignoring gender mainstreaming in trade policies and agreements.
