Questions of political economy, defense strategy, and bilateral relations have dominated the recent analysis of China’s relationship with Latin America.   Yet a wide range of “new” interactions are also important to consider:  transnational flows of capital and people, adaptation and learning in industrial production chains and the mining sector, the fluidity of perceptions between China and Latin America, stereotypes and “othering” of Latin America within China, and what the changing assumptions of China’s top leadership mean for the China-Latin America relationship.
