A program on "Untangling West African Conflicts," featuring Youseff Mahmoud, the Director of the Africa II Division of the UN Department of Political Affairs. One of the UN's most knowledgeable and experienced diplomats, over the last six years Mr. Mahmoud has been directly involved in initiating or implementing a number of conflict prevention, peacemaking and peace building activities in Central and West Africa. His appearance at the Woodrow Wilson International Center will provide an opportunity to take stock of recent developments and the UN response in such conflict-plagued states as Liberia, Sierra Leone and the Ivory Coast.
