Between the Crescent and the Swastika: The Emergence of Political Islam in Germany
Return
to Event List
November 26 2007, 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Event Details
Featuring Dr. Stefan Meining, Wilson Center public policy scholar, and German public television editor.
Largely unnoticed by academic and journalistic circles in early postwar West Germany, structures, loyalties and lines of tradition were established which laid the foundations for the rise of political Islam in Germany and the rest of the Western hemisphere. Newly available documents now shed light on these developments and their consequences. Based on a critical examination of archival sources in Germany, Switzerland and the United States, Dr. Meining is working to unravel the present-day tangle of Islamic political organizations by tracing each thread back to its origin.
