The Africa Program was launched in 1999 with generous support from the Ford Foundation. Under director Howard Wolpe, the program capitalizes on the Center's location in Washington, D.C. to promote dialogue among policymakers and academic specialists on both African issues and U.S. policy toward Africa.
The Africa Program's work is overseen by an Advisory Council composed of experts, scholars, business leaders, and diplomats.
Presently, the Africa Program is composed of five core elements:
PUBLICATIONS - The Africa Program has recently released the first in a new series of Africa Program Policy Briefs. The first release discusses Africa and the global recession, exploring the many implications of the economic downturn for the African continent.
Another recent publication stems from the conference held in May 2009 on IBSA (India, Brazil, South Africa), written by the Brazil Institute. This publication highlights the conference proceedings on the future of South-South cooperation.
The full publication is available here.
