Dear Friends of CWIHP,

Since 1991, our mission has been to conduct cutting-edge research on the history of the Cold War with the aim of integrating documentary evidence from archives on the “other side” of the conflict into the historiography of the era. CWIHP has also made efforts to provide historical context to current international challenges, in particular by helping scholars and policy-makers understand the ways in which the Cold War’s legacy continues to influence today's international landscape.

I write to seek your support for CWIHP’s many activities. We need your help to continue bringing you the same quality publications, insightful discussions, and new document collections that you have come to expect from CWIHP over the past 17 years.

CWIHP today is busier than ever. Highlights of some of our most recent activities include:

an agreement between CWIHP and the People’s Republic of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Archive which will allow us to publish translations of recently declassified PRC documents.
• the completion of the largest ever edition of the CWIHP Bulletin, No. 16: Inside China’s Cold War, featuring new Chinese, Albanian, Russian, and Mongolian documents.
the addition of hundreds of pages of documents to our online Virtual Archive, including documents from Romania, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, and other former-communist countries.
• the inauguration of a new Cold War Summer Institute for high school teachers to be organized in cooperation with the Gilder Lehrman Institute.
• the continuation of CWIHP's afternoon seminar series--keeping you up to date on the latest literature in Cold War history.

Our ambitious plans include a major, long-awaited overhaul of our online Virtual Archive. These upgrades will make it easier than ever to search our enormous and growing collection of documents online. By next year we also plan to publish CWIHP’s 2000+ page compilation of conversations with Joseph Stalin as well as new revelations from the Mitrokhin Archive.

All of these activities require funding: While CWIHP does receive some funding from large foundations; these grants cover only some of our total operating budget. The balance comes from donations made by generous CWIHP supporters like yourselves.

I urge you to make your tax deductible donation to CWIHP’s future today.

Sincerely,

Dr. Christian Ostermann,
Director, CWIHP
