New IOM report addresses violence against foreign nationals in South Africa
March 12, 2009
Based on five months of fieldwork conducted by the Forced Migration Studies Programme (FMSP) at the University of Witswatersrand, the report outlines the political economy of violence against outsiders and the immediate triggers and factors that helped translate xenophobic attitudes into violent attacks.
Loren Landau, Director of the FMSP, was at the Wilson Center in February to discuss the findings of the report in a panel discussion co-sponsored by the Comparative Urban Studies Project and the Africa Program.
