Water Stories

Water affects everything. From the ruined towns of Banda Aceh to the cracked plains of Africa, water has staggering impacts on health, ecosystems, agriculture, global climate change, population and economic dynamics--even war and peace.

ECSP programs and publications—including the Navigating Peace Initiative, supported by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, seek to reframe stale debates and generate fresh thinking on critical water problems in three areas:

  • Expanding opportunities for small-scale water and sanitation projects;
  • Analyzing water's potential to spur both conflict and cooperation; and
  • Building dialogue and cooperation between the United States and China using lessons from water conflict resolution.

    Report: The Navigating Peace Initiative's Water Stories: Expanding Opportunities in Small-Scale Water and Sanitation Projects examines the success of small-scale, community-based water and sanitation efforts.
