FULBRIGHT DISTINGUISHED CHAIRS PROGRAM

Fulbright-Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars Chair in Canada-U.S. Relations

Introduction to The Canada-U.S. Fulbright Program
The Canada-U.S. Fulbright Program is administered by the Foundation for Educational Exchange between Canada and the United States of America, which was created in February 1990 with a mandate to enhance mutual understanding between the two countries. In view of this mandate, The Canada-U.S. Fulbright Program strives to support the study of Canada and the United States and to encourage and broaden research efforts in the wide range of subjects pertaining to the relationship between the two countries. With the support of the United States Department of State and the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, The Canada-U.S. Fulbright Program seeks to engage the best scholars in Canada and the United States in exchanges consistent with the highest standards of academic excellence.

The Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program
Awards in the Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program are viewed as among the most prestigious appointments in the Fulbright Scholar Program. The creation of ‘visiting’ chairs at select institutions in Canada and the United States is intended to encourage collaboration among prominent Canadian and American scholars and facilitate the development of long-term institutional linkages between the two countries. Scholars apply to fill a specific position associated with a particular field of study identified by The Canada-U.S. Fulbright Program and the host institution in Canada or the United States.

Introduction to the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars
The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars is the living, national memorial to President Wilson established by an act of Congress in 1968 and headquartered in Washington, D.C. It is a nonpartisan institution, supported by public and private funds, engaged in the study of national and world affairs. The Center establishes and maintains a lively, neutral forum for free and informed dialogue. The mission of the Center is to commemorate the ideals and concerns of Woodrow Wilson by: providing a link between the world of ideas and the world of policy; and fostering research, study, discussion, and collaboration among a full spectrum of individuals concerned with policy and scholarship in national and world affairs. The Woodrow Wilson Center’s Canada Institute was established to explore one of America's most important bilateral relationships.
