NKIDP Document Reader Featured in South Korean Media

October 06, 2009

NKIDP is pleased to announce that its latest Document Reader, New Evidence on Inter-Korean Relations, 1971-1972, was recently the focus of widespread media attention in South Korea. The collection was first featured in a cover story and two-page spread in the 24 September edition of the Dong-a Ilbo. On 25 September, the collection was again featured in a full-page article in Dong-a Ilbo, and also in a 1 minute 40 second segment on the 8pm news broadcast of SBS. Articles on the collection were also carried by the Yonhap news agency, Chosun Ilbo, The Hankyoreh, and Maeil economic paper.

The articles and broadcasts highlight new findings contained in the East German, Bulgarian, Romanian, and South Korean documents which comprise the reader.

Among the most compelling new findings concerns the Park Chung Hee administration's decision to inform the North of its dissolution of the National Assembly and imposition of martial law, as well as insight into the North's motives behind pursuing peaceful reunification.
