The Wilson Center's Division of U.S. Studies along with Friends of Cancer Research convened this two-day conference in November that brought together leading oncologists, scientists, academics, pharaceutical company representatives, and senators to educate each other and discuss the potential for better diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer.

The Canada Institute is pleased to announce that the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television has honored Steve Paikin as a nominee for the "Best Host or Interviewer in a News Information or Talk Program or Series" category at the 2003 Gemini Awards. Mr. Paikin is recognized for his work on Studio 2's broadcast of the live town meeting that was produced in conjunction with the Canada Institute and MHz Networks on "Family Feud: America and its Allies at a Crossroads."

Philippa Strum, director of the Center's U.S. Studies program, won her second American Bar Association Silver Gavel Award for her book Women in the Barracks: The VMI Case and Equal Rights. The Silver Gavel Awards recognize products in media and the arts that have been exemplary in fostering the American public's understanding of the law and the legal system.

The Project on America and the Global Economy (PAGE) together with the Athena Alliance co-hosted the second in a series of sessions on accounting standards for intangible assets in the post-Enron era.
