East European Studies Short-term Research Scholarships

The Wilson Center's European Studies Program is now accepting applications for the EES Short-term Grant competition, which is open to academic experts and practitioners, including advanced graduate students, engaged in specialized research requiring access to Washington, DC and its research institutions. Grants are for one month and include residence at the Wilson Center. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, in order to be considered eligible for this grant opportunity. The deadline for this grant cycle is: June 1, 2013.

East European Studies Junior Scholars' Training Seminar

The European Studies program is now accepting applications for its Junior Scholars' Training Seminar - a scholarship opportunity for graduate students (MA and above) working towards a degree in the social sciences and humanities with a regional focus on Central and Eastern Europe, including the Baltic states. The 2009 Ion Ratiu Democracy Lecture Democracy: Traps and Question Marks by Adam Michnik Featured in International Media

Adam Michnik, Editor-in-Chief of Poland's daily newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza and recipient of the 2009 Ion Ratiu Democracy Award, was featured in a number of distinguished press publications. Michnik's speech Democracy: Traps and Question Marks marked the 5th annual Ion Ratiu Democracy Lecture, which took place at the Wilson Center on December 3, 2009. His address was preceded by a brief introduction by The Honorable Zbigniew Brzezinski, former National Security Advisor to President Carter.
