CWIHP is pleased to announce new ECNU Scholar Youzhen Xu. Her project while at the center is entited "Behind the Deadlock: The U.S., the PRC, the U.K. and the Issue of the POWs during the Korean War." Youzhen will be in residence from December 2011 - March 2012.
The program will provide Korean students currently enrolled in an advanced degree program the opportunity to spend between three to six months at the Center conducting advanced research on an important public policy issue or a topic in international history.
The Sixth Annual European Summer School on Cold War History is now accepting applications. It will be held at the Università di Trento from 4-6 September 2014.
NKIDP e-Dossier No. 7, "East German Documents on Kim Il Sung’s April 1975 Trip to Beijing," is introduced by Ria Chae and showcases four East German documents which provide new evidence on on Kim Il Sung’s 1975 visit to Beijing and demonstrate Kim’s changing unification strategy and his increasingly distant relationship with China in the mid-1970s.
"New Evidence on the Korean War"
NKIDP senior adviser and Ohio State University Associate Professor of History Mitchell Lerner’s working paper “Mostly Propaganda in Nature: Kim Il Sung, the Juche ideology, and the Second Korean War” was recently cited in an article on Asia Times Online. The article, authored by NKIDP research assistant Yong Kwon, highlights the relevance of North Korea’s military provocations in 1968 for understanding the prospects for North Korea in the post-Kim Jong Il era.
