Project Summary

In the context of social changes related to economic, political and spiritual pluralism, reviews the historical understanding of the Kazakh people. Notes that history was tied to ideological and political statements, therefore dealt with in a one-sided fashion. Looks at the history and culture of the peoples of Kazakhstan and Central Asia with their ethnic culture and religious community. Highlights literary and social ties, the role of periodicals and publishers in the cultural life, ties to education and science, and the Rusification policy of Russia in the area.
