Confronting Ethnic Conflict in Africa: Towards a Theoretical Framework of the Conditions for Successful Third Party Intervention

Jennifer Demaio is a Political Science Ph.D candidate at the University of California, Los Angeles. She has a Masters in Science from the London School of Economics and Political Science. The recipient of many awards and fellowships, she has also published several papers on conflict in Africa. Ms. Demaio's dissertation straddles the comparative politics and international relations fields and deals directly with the impact of third party intervention on the management of ethnic conflict in Africa. She intends to examine the impact of intervention two, five and ten years after the cessation of hostilities. Her research will make an important contribution to the improvement of intervention and peacebuilding policies, as well as helping to devise more effective conflict management.
