Project Summary
The conquest of the Khanate of Kazan was a pivotal event in the development of the Muscovite Empire, and continues to affect contemporary politics in Russia today. In the wake of the Soviet decline, Russia grapples with its autonomous regions, including Tatarstan, facing political and cultural resistance as one of many legacies of the conquest of the Khanate.
