to what extent the Soviet theory of operational art during the interwar years owes its existence to the practical and intellectual inheritance of the pre-revolutionary Russian army and, conversely, to what degree operational thought during the period may be ascribed to circumstances peculiar to the Soviet regime military strategy and tactics; 1904-1937
