a study of urbanization in the USSR during the 1930s with special attention to the largest and most famous of the new cities, Magnitogorsk.; city building and city life served as consciously designed strategic devices to further the political program of inculcating new habits and attitudes; investigation of the plans for creating a large city entirely from scratch.
