As the violence in Kosovo expands and NATO continues its air campaign against Serbia, the need for strategies to help prevent and contain such tragedies grows ever more apparent. "Examining Conflict Prevention: Lessons and Possibilities" held on June 9-11, in Berlin, Germany brought together practitioners and scholars to discuss what we have learned about preventing deadly conflict and to consider how the principles of conflict prevention might be applied to the challenges facing Europe on the brink of the 21st Century. David Hamburg, president emeritus of the Carnegie Corporation of New York and Tim Wirth, president of the United Nations Foundation will give introductory remarks. In addition to Kennedy, presenters include John Steinbruner, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution; Jessica Mathews, president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; and Allen Hammond, director of strategic analysis at the World Resources Institute.
