Mr.
Olorunyomi is currently a Senior Fellow and Director of Nigeria Programs at
the Panos Institute in Washington, DC. He has held this position since 1996.
He also coordinates MediaNet, a network to strengthen freedom of expression
through cross-border collaborative electronic reporting in and outside Nigeria.
From 1993-95, he was Editor-in-Chief of The News for Independent Communications
Network in Lagos, Nigeria. He had previously been Editor for African
Guardian (1992-93), a publication by Guardian Press Limited of Lagos, Nigeria
and Political Editor for African Concord Magazine (1991-92), published
by Concord Press, Limited of Lagos, Nigeria.
His publications include: "Defiant Publishing in Nigeria;" Media Studies Journal; Fall 1996, Columbia University, New York and Access to Public Information and the African Media; University of Florida Press (forthcoming).
Mr Olorunyomi was a member of the 1994 International Visitors' Program to study Ethics in Government in the United States; Honorary Citizen of the Commonwealth of Kentucky; 1996 Distinguished Visitor, Urban Morgan Institute of Human Rights, College of Law, University of Cincinnati, Ohio; 1996 Krinock Guest Lecturer, Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Lansing, Michigan; Recipient of the 1995 International Editor of the Year Award of the World Press Review; Recipient of the 1996 PEN Center (West) Freedom to Write Award; Press Freedom Award (1996) of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) New York.

Mr Olorunyomi received his M.A. in Literary Studies in 1985 at the University of Ife, Ile-Ife.
