Since 2011, the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars has partnered with the Korea Foundation, to host Korean students enrolled in advanced degree programs as part of a Korea Foundation Junior Scholars Program. Each year, the program provides three students the opportunity to spend up to six months at the Wilson Center with the History and Public Policy Program (HAPP) conducting advanced research on an important public policy issue or a topic in international history.

The Korea Foundation Junior Scholars are selected through a competitive application process. In accepting a Woodrow Wilson Center residential appointment, Korea Foundation Junior Scholars become part of a community of scholars whose collegial interactions with each other, and with the Washington policy community, characterize the Center's unique environment. While at the Wilson Center, Korea Foundation Junior Scholars carry out a full schedule of rigorous research and writing based on the topic outlined in the research proposal submitted at the time of application. Prior to concluding their term at the Wilson Center, the Korea Foundation Junior Scholars are required to present the findings of their research at an event open to the public.

The Korea Foundation was established in 1991 by the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea with the aim to of enhancing the image of Korea in the world and promoting academic and cultural exchange programs.
