The Cold War International History Project (CWIHP) is the recipient of a two-year grant from the Henry Luce Foundation for the project “Expanding the Chinese Foreign Policy Documents Database.”

Through the project, CWIHP will continue to expand the Chinese Foreign Policy Database. Presenting a wealth of new information—including a compelling timeline of major events in China’s foreign relations and more than 25 curated document collections—the Database fills the critical need for sources and reliable information relating to China’s foreign policies.

At present, the Database includes over 600 records from the now-closed Chinese Foreign Ministry Archives in Beijing. Over the course of the project, CWIHP plans to greatly expand the amount of Chinese Foreign Ministry documentation available on the Database and expects to release materials covering nearly every corner of the globe and all major global events and issues from 1949 through 1966. CWIHP also plans to organize several workshops at which scholars from around the world can begin to assess the documentation published through the Chinese Foreign Policy Database.

The Chinese Foreign Policy Database was developed and launched with the initial support of the MacArthur Foundation in May 2015.

The Cold War International History Project is a part of the Wilson Center’s History and Public Policy Program, directed by Christian F. Ostermann.
