Latin American Program in the News: Debilidad institucional vulnera guerra contra narcotráfico en Honduras

The Latin American Program was mentioned for its publication of "Organizaciones de Tráfico de drogas en Centroamérica: Transportistas, Carteles Mexicanos y Maras," which identified the nexus between the Sinaloa Cartel and criminal organizations within Honduras. (In Spanish)

Mientras, el informe Organizaciones de Tráfico de drogas en Centroamérica: Transportistas, Carteles Mexicanos y Maras, de 2010, hecho por el Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, identifica los sectores en donde el cartel de Sinaloa, el más poderoso grupo de narcotráfico de México, opera en Honduras.

“En Honduras, estos agentes (de investigación) dicen que facciones de Sinaloa trabajan estrechamente con transportistas en Olancho y cerca del Golfo de Fonseca”, apunta el documento.

Igualmente, el cartel de Sinaloa apoya candidaturas de alcaldes en departamentos de Copán, Santa Bárbara y Cortés y otras provincias fronterizas con Guatemala.

“Y hay informes que un alcalde a menudo cierra la ciudad a extraños cuando organiza conciertos con grupos de música norteña que llegan de México”, asegura el documento.

Estos sectores son “áreas que ellos (narcotraficantes del cartel de Sinaloa), también las usan para el almacenaje y las actividades de tráfico”, dice el informe.
