Latin American Program in the News: Enrique Santos spoke in the United States about the peace process

During a forum at the Wilson Center, Enrique Santos called attention to the pace of the peace processes, although he also noted there had been progress. (In Spanish)

El exdirector de El Tiempo llamó la atención sobre el "lento" ritmo de las conversaciones.

Pese a citar "progresos" en las últimas semanas, el exdirector de EL TIEMPO Enrique Santos Calderón, quien hizo parte de la fase exploratoria del proceso de paz, se mostró preocupado por el lento ritmo en que avanzan las negociaciones de paz con las Farc.

"El ritmo tiene que fluir más. Llevamos 5 meses y no se ha comenzado siquiera a profundizar en el primer punto (el agrícola) y eso es preocupante. La sensación de que esto es algo distinto se podría evaporar. Se podría pasar de la indiferencia a la hostilidad y si no hay progreso eso podría asfixiar el proceso", dijo Santos que participo hoy en un foro organizado por el Woodrow Wilson Center en Washington

De acuerdo con Santos, que hizo parte del equipo negociador que inició los diálogos con las Farc en Cuba, no se trata de imponer plazos fatales pero si producir un ritmo más convincente.

"Un conflicto de 50 años no se resuelve ni en 50 días o 50 semanas. Pero si tiene que avanzar", afirmó el periodista.
