Leadership Transition, Intra-Party Democracy, and Institution Building in China

Asia Program Staff Gang Lin's article "Leadership Transition, Intra-Party Democracy, and Institution Building in China" was published in Asian Survey. This article argues that recent leadership transition in China was a mixture of institutional formalization and political personalization, and that intra-party democracy has been conducted within the framework of one-party rule and guided by the predetermined principle of democratic centralism.
