Five Things You Need to Know about How Argentina Sees China

1. Among countries outside Latin America, Argentines still consider the United States the top priority for the country’s foreign policy, followed by China.

2. China enjoys a positive image among Argentines across different sectors of society, despite U.S. efforts to drive a wedge between Buenos Aires and Beijing.

3.  After steady improvement, President Donald Trump’s image in Argentina stagnated in our latest ArgentinaPulse survey, with a 44 percent approval rate. President Xi Jinping enjoys a better public image, with 58 percent support, though he less known than Mr. Trump.

4. Over all, Uruguay enjoys the best image among Argentines, with 81 percent of respondents expressing a “good” or “very good” opinion of their neighbor.

5. Argentine interest in international affairs ranges between low and moderate, with a majority expressing little (39 percent) or no (22 percent) interest.
