Jukka Niva, Class of 2018

Wilson Fellow Jukka Niva recently launched his game, Troll Factory, which aims to promote digital media literacy among those who do not consume traditional news. Niva worked on this game while a fellow at the Center in 2018 and the game recently received a silver medal from The Global Youth and News Media Prize. In addition to promoting digital media literacy, Troll Factory helps social media users understand how they play a role in spreading false information — even unintentionally.

Jukka Niva is the Head of News Lab of the Finnish Broadcasting company YLE. Finnish YLE operates four TV stations, six radio channels and a digital news service. Alongside The BBC, Finnish YLE is the most innovative among Public Broadcasters in Europe. Within YLE, Niva has previously acted as Chief of Economics Desk, TV1 Business News host, acting Editor-in-Chief and Head of National News. Niva graduated from the University of Helsinki with a major in the History of Politics.
