Michael J. Geary, Class of 2013

Current Global Fellow and former Fellow Michael J. Geary was appointed Associate Professor of Modern History at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in early January of 2018. His research interests include topics such as the European Union, Transatlantic Relations, British-Irish Relations and Comparative European Politics and Government. 

Dr. Michael J. Geary (Ph.D. European University Institute, Florence, Italy) was previously Director of Studies of the MA in European Studies at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. A native of Ireland, he has held distinguished residential fellowships at the Wilson Center, the College of Europe (Warsaw), the University of Basel (Switzerland) and a Fulbright professorship in Washington, DC. He is the author of two books and numerous articles on EU integration, enlargement and EU-US relations. His Op-Eds have appeared in The National Interest, Euractiv, The Hill’s Congress Blog, EUObserver and he has been quoted frequently in the Guardian, Washington Post, New York Times, Associated Press, BBC News, CNN and Reuters.
