As the conflict in Eastern Ukraine enters a new year, much remains unresolved. Sporadic fighting continues between the Ukrainian forces and the separatists. Prisoner exchanges, short-lived cease fires, and uneasy deals for energy supplies mark this conflict. Negotiations are scheduled in January, meanwhile both sides continue to rearm.
