Honoring Rostropovich’s Legacy of Musical Diplomacy

This event is co-sponsored by the National Symphony Orchestra as part of its series A Salute to Slava, which honors the work and life of its former music director Mstislav “Slava” Rostropovich. Rostropovich used his enormous talent as a world-class cellist and conductor to be an activist for freedom of expression and a citizen diplomat between the United States and the Soviet Union. The panelists discussed his legacy and the existence and value of citizen diplomacy today. The discussion was followed by a reception and a performance by "The Last Stand Quartet."
