Belarus: Between a Rock and a Hard Place
Belarus is sandwiched between Russia and the EU, both geographically and politically trapped between Russian dominance and European neglect. How does Belarusian society view its place in the world as a result? Professors Ioffe and Manaev drew on data from a series of national surveys to discuss popular sentiment concerning Belarus’ foreign policy. In particular, they analyzed its trend towards isolationism and current prospects for maintaining and strengthening Belarusian statehood despite a persistent geopolitical tug-of-war. Valery Kavaleuski added commentary and Ambassador Kenneth Yalowitz moderated the discussion.
