On May 17, 2018, Africa Program Director Dr. Monde Muyangwa attended the Africa Leadership Forum, “Africa in the Global Peace and Security Architecture,” organized by the UONGOZI Leadership Institute. Held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, former Presidents H.E. Benjamin Mkapa of Tanzania, H.E. Thabo Mbeki of South Africa, and H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia gathered with about forty high-level experts and leaders in African peace and security to advance the discussion on Africa’s place in the global security framework.

Dr. Monde Muyangwa Facilitates Panels at the Africa Think Tank Summit in Rabat

From May 9-11, 2018, Africa Program Director Monde Muyangwa participated in the 2018 Africa Think Tank Summit, themed “Deepening Expertise and Enhancing Sustainability: Insights into Contemporary Challenges Facing African Think Tanks.” The Summit, held in Rabat, Morocco, was hosted by the OCP Policy Center and the Think Tank and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) of the University of Pennsylvania. High-level government officials, academics, and private sector leaders from Africa and beyond came together to discuss paths to progress for African think tanks.

2018 Southern Voices Network for Peacebuilding Conference

The Wilson Center Africa Program in partnership with the Institute for Peace and Security Studies at Addis Ababa University co-hosted the 2018 Southern Voices Network for Peacebuilding (SVNP) Conference from July 16 to 19, 2018 under the theme "National, Regional, and Global Infrastructures for Peace in Africa: Challenges, Prospects, and Opportunities," in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
