A free press is a vital component of a healthy democracy, but across the Americas, journalists face a range of challenges, including physical violence, verbal attacks by elected leaders, and censorship. Meanwhile, economic factors, including conflicts of interest, have deprived many news consumers of independent reporting. In this episode of Americas 360, former U.S. Ambassador to Panama John Feeley joins our Wilson Center experts to discuss the state of the press in the Americas.

The Mexico Institute seeks to improve understanding, communication, and cooperation between Mexico and the United States by promoting original research, encouraging public discussion, and proposing policy options for enhancing the bilateral relationship.
