Internships with the Communications Office - Media Outreach

POSITION:  Fall Communications and Media Outreach Intern
SALARY:  Unpaid, but students may arrange to receive academic credit for their internship through their university
DATES:  September 2015-December 2015 (Start and end dates flexible)
HOURS: 20-35 hours a week
LOCATION: Washington, D.C.

The communications department at the Wilson Center seeks an energetic and self-motivated student or recent graduate interested in public policy, international affairs, and communications for an internship this fall. Consistently ranked as one of the top think tanks in the world, the Wilson Center provides opportunities for hands on experience working on a wide range of issues that impact today’s public policy debates.


The intern is involved in virtually every aspect of The Wilson Center’s Communications department – a dynamic team managing external communications for Wilson Center events, publications, media relations, and online communications.

The intern performs a range of duties including: writing press releases and media advisories, outreach through social media, and communications strategies for highlighted Wilson Center events and projects. The intern also assists with the maintenance of The Wilson Center website and media contacts databases; the upkeep of related files. Other duties may also be assigned. 


The applicant must have strong writing and organizational skills, an interest in current affairs, and the ability to work independently and efficiently. The applicant should be interested in current intellectual and scholarly developments in a wide variety of fields. Experience in the field of journalism and an expressed interest in a wide variety of fields is valued.  Both graduate and undergraduate students are welcome to apply.

The applicant should be able to use standard computer word-processing software such as Word and be familiar with Web-based research methods.
