POSITION:  Summer Social Media Intern
SALARY:  $17.45 per hour
DATES:  June - August 2024 (Start and end dates flexible)
HOURS: 25 hours a week for a total of 12 weeks
LOCATION: Washington, D.C. (Remote or Hybrid options available)

The External Relations department at the Wilson Center seeks an energetic and self-motivated student or recent graduate interested in digital communication, public policy, and international affairs for a social media internship. The ideal applicant will possess strong knowledge of the digital media landscape, including business use of social media on various platforms. Interns will be responsible for contributing to social networks, participating in online outreach and promotion, and supporting events.

Those looking to gain valuable social media experience with an established organization are encouraged to apply. These internships are designed to provide the opportunity to gain practical experience in an environment that combines academic study and public policy. Internships also provide opportunities to attend events within the Wilson Center and around Washington.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Digital team to create and implement campaigns
  • Create engaging social media content, including graphics and video products
  • Provide support to the communications team for events
  • Monitor analytics with social media team to identify viable ideas
  • Other duties as assigned

Applicants should:

  • Be enrolled in a degree program, recently graduated (within the last year), and/or have been accepted to enter an advanced degree program within the next year
  • Have experience or demonstrated interest in social media/marketing
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Have an understanding of the Wilson Center's work and mission
  • Understand how to work and communicate in a nonpartisan environment 
  • Have great attention to detail
  • Have in-depth working knowledge of Facebook, X (Formerly Twitter), Instagram, and LinkedIn
  • Have a basic knowledge of Photoshop, Canva, Buffer, or other social media management tools
  • Have experience (professional or personal) with content creation, including graphic design and short-form video production

Strongest Applicants will:

  • Have experience (professional or personal) with video editing programs such as Adobe Premier and/or CapCut
  • Have experience with social media analytics
  • Demonstrate experience (professional or personal) in a nonpartisan environment
