The Cold War International History Project seeks an intern candidate for fall 2017 with strong Arabic language skills to participate in a project to describe a new collection related to post-1945 Lebanese history and the Cold War in the Middle East. The selected intern will work closely with primary sources handwritten in Arabic focused on Lebanese politics, political parties, and communist influence in the region. The selected candidate will work with Wilson Center staff to describe, catalog, and translate these archival records for publication online.

Qualifications

Successful applications will:

  • Demonstrate ability to read and write Arabic with near-native proficiency. Non-native speakers should include evidence of coursework, language instruction, and subject area proficiency with their application;
  • Demonstrate interest and knowledge of recent Middle East history and the Cold War period;
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, writing, and research skills.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a degree program (undergraduate or graduate), have graduated within the past year, or have been accepted to enter an advanced degree program in history, political science, library science, or related field within the next year.
  • Interns are expected to work between 14 and 35 hours per week.

  • This internship is unpaid, though we do offer interns the opportunity to earn academic credit in accordance with their programs' requirements.
