Research Assistant (Russian Language Specialist)
Russian language skills required for a project to describe newly declassified Soviet documents

The Cold War International History Project seeks intern candidates with strong Russian language skills to participate in a project to catalog and analyze newly declassified Soviet documents and assist with uploading them to CWIHP's Digital Archive. The summer semester deadline in 30 March, the fall semester deadline is 15 July, and the spring semester deadline is 15 November.

The selected intern will work closely with primary sources from Soviet archival collections covering the Cold War era. The selected candidate will work with Wilson Center staff to describe, catalog, and translate these archival records for publication online.

Qualifications

Successful applications will:

  • Demonstrate ability to read and write Russian with near-native proficiency. Non-native speakers should include evidence of coursework, language instruction, and subject area proficiency with their application;
  • Demonstrate interest and knowledge of  Cold War history, Soviet foreign relations, and/or the Stalinist period of Soviet history.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, writing, and research skills.

 

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a degree program (undergraduate or graduate), have graduated within the past year, or have been accepted to enter an advanced degree program in history, political science, library science, or related field within the next year.
  • Interns are expected to work between 14 and 35 hours per week.

  • This internship is unpaid, though we do offer interns the opportunity to earn academic credit in accordance with their programs' requirements.
