Research Intern (Italian Language Specialist)

The Cold War International History Project seeks an intern candidate with strong Italian-language skills to participate in a long term project to publish new primary sources from an archival collection of Italian origin. The collection represents one of most important recent European archival openings covering the Cold War era. The selected candidate will work with Wilson Center staff and institutional partners at the University of Roma Tre to translate and describe archival records for publication online. Candidates should have interest in any of the following:

  • The history of NATO
  • The history of Sino-European relations
  • European security policy


Successful applications will:

  • Demonstrate ability to read and write Italian at a near-fluent level. Non-native speakers of Italian should include evidence of coursework, language instruction, or proficiency with their application;
  • Demonstrate interest in nuclear history and/or Cold War European history;
  • Demonstrate strong writing and research skills.


  • Applicants must be enrolled in a degree program, have graduated within the past year, or have been accepted to enter an advanced degree program in history, political science, library science, or allied related field within the next year.
  • Interns are expected to work between 14 and 35 hours per week.
