    Full Biography

    Ilan Goldenberg most recently served as the acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs. Prior to that, he was a Senior Fellow and Director of the Middle East Security Program at the Center for a New American Security. He specializes in foreign policy and defense, Iran's nuclear program, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Before working at CNAS, Goldenberg served as Chief of Staff to the Special Envoy for Israeli-Palestinian Negotiations at the U.S. State Department. 

    Before 2009, Ilan Goldenberg was one of the founding members and Policy Director for the National Security Network, a progressive foreign policy organization. From 2009 to 2012, Mr. Goldenberg was a Special Advisor on the Middle East and the Iran Team Chief in the office of the Under-Secretary of Defense for Policy. From 2012 to 2013, he served as a Senior Professional Staff Member on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, working on Middle East issues for Senators John Kerry and Bob Menendez. He acted as one of the lead drafters of the Syria Transition Support Act, which provided funds to arm the Syrian opposition. 

    Ilan Goldenberg has a B.A. in international studies from the University of Pennsylvania, a B.S. in economics from Wharton School of Business, and a Master's in International Affairs from Columbia School of International and Public Affairs.
