Expert Bio

Jun Ota, Executive Director, Department of Comprehensive Welfare Strategy, Urban Renaissance Agency, completed a Masters of Engineering at Kyoto University. In 1988 he joined the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (now the Urban Renaissance Agency). At this public agency, he was at the forefront of revitalizing and managing empty housing lots and urban areas. In 2006 he was assigned as team leader of the 2nd Division of the 3rd Unit of the Office of Tokyo Metropolitan area, and in 2013 he became Director of the Kanagawa Regional Branch Office Housing Management Department. While serving as the Kanagawa Area Management Direction in 2014, he joined with architect Kengo KUMA (Professor at Tokyo University) and creative director Kashiwa SATO to lead the "Future of Housing Complexes Project," which used an existing lot in Yokohama as the model case for complete urban revitalization and became the Urban Renaissance Agency's flagship project for community development in partnership with local agencies.

Mr. Ota has been at his current position since 2016.
